Kitchen… nearly done
And as if by magic; the kitchen now looks more like a finished room!
Still lots of work to do here but the end’s just about now in sight.
First “real” task on the agenda (after yesterday’s clean etc) is to strip out a er, lovely built in wardrobe. Looks like it was knocked up by an over zealous chippy when the house was built – complete with a fine example of 1970’s wallpaper for good measure. Definitely has to go…. Only question is…
While waiting for quotes from our plasterer, we’ve made a start on wallpaper stripping in the lounge. The walls in here appear fine at first glance, but looking again reveals niceties like a badly-patched serving hatch & poor quality plaster repairs – all of which are only going to disappear if the walls are reskimmed….
The new dining room is really taking shape now, and it’s finally beginning to look like a completed room rather than a building site. As the floor nears completion however we realised that we needed to get some door bars to join the flooring under hall door, across the threshhold into the lounge and where…
Given the state of the old floor boards in the bathroom we were left with little option except to remove them & start again with a new plywood floor – more suitable as a solid base for a shower tray & floor tiles. Thanks to the joists being just slightly too far apart to support…
With the ceiling boarding complete, we started taping & jointing the boards to provide a (hopefully) smooth finish to the new ceiling. The joins were taped with plasterboard tape and skimmed over with a thin coat of plaster. After letting this go off for 24 hours we then attacked the ceiling with a sanding pad…
Now the plaster’s done, it’s time to crack on with the rest of the house. The first couple of coats of paint have been applied to the main bedroom to seal & cover the newly dry plaster, and this weekend’s job is to start getting the proper top-coats of paint done along with all the…
